This unique product uses Region of Interest (ROI) based video encoding to reduce transmission bit rate up to 60% without noticeable degradation of the image compared to standard compression methods. ROI refers to the content in the video frame that most captures the viewers attention. For example: the face of the newsreader; the impassioned speech of a world leader; the ball in a game of soccer or rugby. Smart Video Optimiser automatically detects the primary regions of interest and displays them at a higher bit- rate while the secondary regions are displayed at a lower bit-rate. The overall result is lower bit rate transmission with no perceived loss of image quality by the viewer.

Technology Overview of Smart Video Optimiser
Smart Video Optimiser runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. A new codec that produces video using the H.264 standard sits in your existing FFmpeg library. You simply add the new codec as an FFmpeg output option to your video processing workflow. Alternatively our ROI detection algorithms can be integrated into your own encoder. Smart Video Optimiser is suitable for any device that can view H.264.
The Region of Interest detection algorithms, based on the pixel domain approach, automatically determine the preferential areas in the video frame for higher bit rate encoding and the less important background areas for lower bit-rate encoding. The video file can be delivered at a lower bit-rate or remain at the same bit- rate but with improved picture quality for the areas of most interest to the viewer.
For video distribution to mobile devices the low bit-rate for less quality trade off is now a thing of the past.
